Hey Mom, I have something a little... uncomfortable to talk to you about.
Okay. What's going on?
Well I've had some pain and bleeding down there lately.
Ah, the worst. Like daughter, like mother.
I'm not sure what to do.
What do you mean?
I've had issues down there for years. That's why I'm on top of my pap tests. It’s given me peace of mind in making sure my issues don't become something bigger.
I didn't know that.
It's not really coffee talk. But, I guess, here we are.
All I can say, is you need to get in and get your pap test. You're supposed to get one every three years from ages 21 to 64. So, you’re due.
I know I'm supposed to get it done, but the idea of someone... investigating down there freaks me out.
I know it's not fun. But it's necessary and one of the best ways to catch issues early. When I was about your age, I had a real scare. I thought I had cervical cancer.
But, you didn't — right?
No, luckily — but my doctor said it could have turned into cervical cancer if I left it untreated.
Cervical cancer is tricky. Even if you feel normal, cancer could be developing. So, as your mother and someone who’s been there, get in and get checked. It’s worth it. Plus, it's usually covered by insurance.
Okay, I will.
Schedule your test today.
Cervical Cancer is the third most common form of cancer in women. Get your pap smear test every three years.
